Yesterday I got my hair cut and high-lighted, it felt so nice because it was ages since I last had my hair done. There was a small surprise though... I had booked an appointment at a place I had been to before, but this time I was gonna try a new stylist called Jessica. So yesterday I walked into the salon and was immediately greeted by Jessica... who is a man... in a skirt and glittery top. That was definitely a first! I mean it's obviously not the first time I meet a transvestite (I live in London after all!) but normally that occurs in a glitzy nightclub, not at the hairdressers in the middle of the day :) Anyway, Jessica turned out to be lovely and I'm really happy with the cut, I like the fringe! What do you guys think!
I also did a little detour to H&M and picked up this nautical striped top...
Ah, you look great! And so do your new clothes! ;). Haha, I can imagine the surprise when you first saw Jessica!

Ahh it's so so pretty! And I LOVEEEEEE LOVE love love the flower blouse. I can't stop wearing flowy stuff like that because it's honestly the only thing I can handle in the summer!

ReplyDeleteI'd say there's a pretty big possibility that if Jessica is your stylist's name and Jessica presents themselves as female in dress, then there's a big possibility Jessica doesn't identify as male, and therefor isn't a transvestite.
ReplyDeleteIf a man, who identifies as male, dresses in womens clothing for personal or sexual reasons, he is a transvestite.
If a person is born one gender but psychologically identifies as another gender and takes steps to alter their appearance to present as this gender, including changing their name, they're transexual. And it's generally fairly impolite to speculate on this in a public forum.
@Davitron I don't mean to offend anyone of course, I was just a little bit surprised. But the most important thing is that the haircut was great isn't it? :) And also I have changed the name of the stylist, Jessica is just a made-up name. I appreciate your thoughts though and will keep them in mind in the future!

ReplyDeleteFurther to David- a really safe, general term for anyone who's gender identity is a bit confusing to understand without getting into a big conversation about it us usually just "trans" :) I love that her workplace is so accepting! That's crazy cool in my books, and so's the new hair!
